Examinations/Diagnostic

New Patient Experience

Our initial examination is a process in which we take necessary records to provide a thorough diagnosis, prognosis, and a treatment plan. This examination will include:

• Caries Examination... This examination is performed to find teeth that have decay and are in need of restoration (fillings) or incipient lesions that can be monitored and treated with fluoride.
• Periodontal Examination... Using diagnostic probing we examine your pocket depth between each tooth. Pocket depth is the length between the top of the gum and where the gum attaches to the tooth--if your pocket depth is too deep, you may be the victim of gingivitis and periodontal disease
• Occlusal Examination... The forces of your bite can sometimes affect the positioning of the jaw and teeth. Minor adjustments of the enamel surfaces or fillings of the teeth can help redistribute and redirect the biting forces
• Tempero-Mandibular Joint Dysfunction (TMJ) Examination... TMJ is a condition that affects thousands of people. Frequent indicators of TMJ include popping and clicking of the jaw, limited jaw function, pain in the neck, shoulders, and upper back, and pain and pressure in the face and ears. We provide conservative therapies that can eradicate this painful, frustrating problem.
• Oral Cancer Screening... If you are a tobacco user, you are in primary danger of oral cancer. Thousands of deaths are attributed to oral cancer, and we feel that our duty is to prevent this disease from occurring. We provide oral cancer screenings during all preventative care appointments.

What's cosmetic dentistry?
Cosmetic dentistry is the branch of dentistry that deals with the appearance of the teeth. Recent advances in technology and dental techniques have made it easier for many people to significantly improve the look of their teeth and their smile.

What kinds of techniques does cosmetic dentistry include?
Cosmetic dentistry techniques can:

• whiten teeth and remove stains
• fill gaps and cracks
• reshape an uneven teeth
• restore chipped and broken teeth, often using porcelain, tooth colored crowns
• replace old fillings with virtually invisible fillings
